*'''Note:''' You ppl are wrong! it is not total, it personnal ships that determine this. At 2203 total and 480 pers. ships the 50k colony became no longer available (max for that is 480 pers) and the 125k colony became available to me (min for that is 480 pers). Total MAY affect it, but I watched closely and it was exactly 2203/480 that the new level came up in my HUD (I watched EVERY ship I bought for colony's).

Hi, | |||
Not sure who you are, but the colonies are definitely based on total ships. The only bearing personal ships has, is on the minimum needed to purchase a colony at the various levels.
I think part of the confusion here is that the colony offers do not appear immediately when you are eligible. When you already have 3, the offers to upgrade, come about every 4-5 hours. If you have increased a number of ships by then, you may see your offer appear at different total ships. For the updates we've been tracking, there are at least 20 people supplying their counts. I can assure you that personal ships have nothing to do with it.
For instance, in your case (Class 10 becoming available), I have had 3 folks report to me with 3712 total /178 personal, 3694 total / 183 personal, 3987 total / 212 personal. I have several other examples, but those are just a few.
Rather than post argumentative comments on the Wiki page, please contact one of the folks who have been updating it regularly. I'd also suggest you work hard to get your facts straight before accusing others of being "wrong".

Hi,
Not sure who you are, but the colonies are definitely based on total ships.
